Lemn Sissay is a British-born artist and activist. He was born in Sunderland in 1969 and now lives and works in London. His work has been featured in exhibitions at the Saatchi Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, the Royal Academy of Arts, New York, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. In 2003 he won a Turner Prize for his "Glued to the Floor" series
In 2009 he received the prestigious Jerwood Award for "a career of artistic excellence". In 2013 he was commissioned by Google to produce a series of installations which were displayed at their London headquarters. In 2016 he contributed to a survey exhibition mounted by Tate Modern on British Art from 1900–1960 entitled 'Britain After Empire'. The same year saw his solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London entitled 'Lemn Sissay: Wise Words'.
